FOUNDATIONAL STUDIO FLASH WITH WESLEY LOH

Master the art of the intentional image with award-winning storyteller Wesley Loh in this intensive hands-on workshop, designed to move you beyond the unpredictability of natural light. 

A bespoke experience specifically for Sony Alpha users, this session strips away the guesswork by teaching you to construct a well exposed images using manual flash techniques. You will explore the physics of light shaping through various modifiers and gain confidence in navigating triggering systems while alternating between the roles of lead photographer and lighting assistant. 

By bridging the gap between basic camera settings and professional studio workflows, you will leave with a technical know-how of the exposure triangle that remains consistent and repeatable regardless of your environment.

• Please note that professional models are not provided for this session
• Learners will act as subjects for one another to experience both sides of the lens
• Please bring formal office wear during your practical shooting sessions
• A complimentary sandwich lunch is provided for all participants

• FE 28-70mm F2 GM
• FE 50-150mm F2 GM

• Spots for our workshops are reserved for Sony Alpha camera owners only. If you do not own a Sony Alpha camera but wish to join this workshop and try our Sony E Mount camera, please follow up with an email to MSAInquiry.SG@ap.sony.com, stating your request to borrow a camera. Otherwise, you may be turned away at the workshop.
• Learners need to understand aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
• Learners must be able to set the camera's exposure independently.
• Recommended focal lengths are:
  • 35mm to 85mm (full-frame cameras)
  • 24mm to 55mm (APS-C cameras)

• Identify important relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO within a flash environment
• Navigate manual flash settings and triggering systems with confidence
• Analyze the visual impact of various modifiers on light quality and shadow density
• Construct a correctly exposed image using purely manual techniques
• Execute a professional studio workflow both a lead photographer and a lighting assistant.

About Wesley Loh

Wesley is a storyteller with a passion for capturing human emotions. His photography has helped corporate clients showcase a more relatable and approachable side. Since founding Memphis West Pictures in 1997, Wesley has worked with prominent international brands like McDonald's, Standard Chartered Bank, and JW Marriott, as well as local institutions such as SMU, NTU, and NUS. 

His work has been exhibited at Genesis in Paris and the University Cultural Centre in Singapore, and he won an award for the ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu in 2012. Notably, Wesley collaborated with Epigram Books on "100 Singaporeans," a photography book featuring 100 Singaporean faces, as part of his ongoing quest to define the "Singaporean face".
