About Wings of Southeast Asia: Sony Bird Photography Contest

Wings of Southeast Asia, Sony's Bird Photography Contest, celebrates the birds, stories and moments that inspire birders and photographers across Southeast Asia. Through three unique themes, participants are invited to share memorable encounters, striking bird portraits and extraordinary moments in flight while connecting with a community that shares a passion for nature and wildlife.

CONTEST THEME: Wings of Discovery (Open Category) 

Every birding journey begins with a single encounter.

Wings of Southeast Asia celebrates the joy of discovering birds in your everyday adventures. Whether you're exploring a local park, hiking a forest trail, or spotting a familiar visitor in your neighbourhood, this theme is about the moments that sparked your curiosity and brought you closer to nature.

Complete the Bird Photography 101 course, earn your digital badge, and share a photograph of a bird you’ve encountered. Include a short description based on the topic “My Memorable Bird Encounter”, explaining what made the encounter memorable and what you discovered from the experience.

We’re looking for authentic stories, personal discoveries and memorable moments that showcase the wonder of birding across Southeast Asia. Smartphone and camera photography from any brand are accepted.

Who can enter
Open to smartphone or camera users of any brand.

Entry requirements
- Complete the Bird Photography 101 course on My Sony Academy and earn the digital badge. 
- Submit one photograph of a bird. 
- Include a short story of your encounter based on the topic "My Memorable Bird Encounter". What made this bird encounter memorable, and what did you discover from this experience?

Accepted equipment
- Smartphones
- Cameras of any brand

Judging criteria 
Entries will be evaluated on:
- Composition & creativity
- Originality of Narrative
All decisions made by the organiser (Sony) and judges are final.

What we're looking for 
We're not looking for the rarest bird or the use of the most expensive equipment. We want to see how birding has inspired you, what you noticed, and why the encounter left a lasting impression.

Results announcement
From 21 Dec 2026 
Winners will be notified via email, with the results also announced on Sony’s social media platforms.

Terms & Conditions
- Only 1 entry per theme is allowed. 
- Only JPEG and JPG files are eligible.
- Each photo must not exceed 10MB
- Photo submitted should have EXIF data intact.
