Go behind the scenes of some of this quarter’s most striking productions, all brought to life with the precision and artistry of the CineAlta lineup: VENICE 2 and BURANO.

Whether it’s navigating tight underground spaces in a war epic or crafting nine music videos with a single lightweight camera, these stories highlight how CineAlta empowers filmmakers to capture their vision no matter the challenge.

Director of Photography: Nguyen K’linh

Set against the backdrop of war, ĐỊA ĐẠO isn’t just a cinematic experience, it’s a national phenomenon that broke box office records and stirred hearts across Vietnam. But bringing this film to life came with intense technical challenges: confined tunnels, limited light, and virtually no room for large equipment.

To overcome these obstacles, Director of Photography Nguyen K’linh turned to the Sony VENICE 2 specifically for its ability to detach the image sensor using the VENICE Extension System 2, transforming the camera into a compact yet powerful setup. This allowed the crew to maneuver through tight underground spaces without sacrificing image quality.

“The Extension System of VENICE is like a small camera, but its output matches that of a full professional system,” Nguyen shared. “It was one of the best solutions for us. Without VENICE 2, this project would have been incredibly difficult to realise.”

Nguyen also praised the dual base ISO and wide dynamic range, which allowed him to solve nearly all issues related to space, lighting, and camera movement — critical when working in dark, narrow environments.

The BURANO was used as a secondary camera to capture additional angles, especially during wide shots and fire sequences. Despite being a different model, BURANO matched VENICE 2 impressively in colour, resolution, and dynamic range. It streamlined the post-production workflow and maintained visual consistency across all scenes.

Cinematographer: Kelvin Chew

Filmed as a visual exploration of Vietnamese artist marzuz’s debut album ả, this music video project posed a unique challenge: creating nine distinct yet cohesive visuals for nine different tracks. For Cinematographer Kelvin Chew, the Sony BURANO was the perfect tool for the job.

With its 16 stops of dynamic range and dual base ISO, BURANO delivered rich colour fidelity and low-noise performance, even in varied and low-light shooting conditions. Whether working in shadowy interiors or brightly lit exteriors, Kelvin was able to maintain cinematic image quality with ease.

What truly set BURANO apart, however, was its lightweight and compact form paired with in-body optical image stabilisation (IBIS). This allowed the team to shoot handheld in tight spaces and dynamic environments without the need for additional rigs, saving time and giving more flexibility in creative framing.

The BURANO’s S-Cinetone and S-Log3 colour profiles also gave Kelvin flexibility in post, be it achieving a final look straight out of camera or diving deep into grading for added emotion and polish.

Limitless Tools for Limitless Stories

Whether capturing intimate handheld moments or sweeping cinematic set pieces, the CineAlta lineup continues to empower filmmakers to bring their boldest visions to life. From modularity and sensor flexibility to lightweight agility and post-production consistency, CineAlta proves that great storytelling begins with gear that doesn’t limit your vision, but elevates it.
