Vincent is a bird photographer based in Sabah, who recently traveled all the way from his home to participate in the Sony Bird Race 2025 held in Fraser’s Hill. This is his first time visiting Fraser’s Hill, and he is excited to experience the unique environment it offers.

The reason I decided to join this competition from Sabah is that I wanted to experience the unique biodiversity found in Fraser’s Hill, a place well-known for its rich birdlife and serene highland environment. It has always been my dream to explore new habitats beyond Borneo and observe how different yet equally fascinating the bird species can be. I believe this experience will not only broaden my knowledge but also inspire me to contribute more to bird conservation awareness.  While I usually engage in bird photography solo, this event provides an opportunity to connect with fellow bird enthusiasts and make new friends who share my passion.

Discovering Nature Through the Bird Photography

I started bird photography a few years ago, driven by a curiosity to explore nature. I have also discovered that having a purpose, like bird photography, gives me good reasons to travel to different places.
I travel not only throughout Malaysia but also to other countries, seeking new experiences and opportunities to capture the essence of creatures.
One of the most interesting aspects of bird photography for me is the connection I feel with nature. I have developed my photography skills by participating in workshops and learning from others as well as learning by myself.

How Sony Camera and Lens Enhance My Photography

My Alpha 7 III camera and FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS lens are in hand, allowing me to capture the remarkable birdlife of this new environment.
I chose Alpha 7 III and FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS lens because Sony is a renowned brand known for its innovation and reliability. One of the main reasons I chose Sony over other brands is its advanced autofocus system, which performs exceptionally well in tracking fast-moving subjects such as birds.
I like this setup for its excellent image quality, compactness and well-balanced design. I found that the internal zooming of the FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS lens adds stability and comfort during field use as well.

I believe that in the future, this event will attract even more participants as the birding community in Malaysia continues to grow rapidly. This development not only sets a new benchmark for birdwatching activities in our country but also creates a positive movement that strengthens awareness of the importance of nature conservation in Malaysia.
