Experience the sound of the BRAVIA Theatre TRIO that unleashes the "story" from the TV into the living room.
As the global trend toward larger TV screens becomes a global trend, Sony is adding BRAVIA Theatre TRIO to its home theatre system lineup. Adopting a new form factor that is significantly different from conventional soundbars, this is a completely new flagship model completed after more than two years of collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Our goal was to bring out the appeal of a big-screen TV, delivering a sound experience reminiscent of a movie theatre. Question
Could you tell us about Sony's latest initiatives in the home theatre market and the background behind the development of BRAVIA Theatre TRIO?

Morono
Product Planning Staff
Answer
We have always proposed various home theatre devices under the slogan "Cinema is Coming Home" in the global market, aiming to deliver the moving cinema experience right into your home. Our goal is to deliver the dedication and passion that creators put into their films—namely, the "Creator's Intent"—to our customers. The BRAVIA Theatre TRIO is the next-generation flagship model of home theatre systems, developed to further accelerate this concept.
Question
Could you tell us how BRAVIA Theatre TRIO was developed?

Morono
Product Planning Staff
Answer
To reflect the creators' dedication in their products, we collaborated with Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), the film division of the Sony Group. With SPE's cooperation, we started by learning about what kind of sound production is done on film production sites, and incorporated that expertise into product planning and technology development. We also challenged ourselves to involve SPE's sound creators from the early stages of development and use their feedback to enhance product quality.
Question
Were there any other particular points you focused on in speaker design?

Tanaka
Mechanical Design Leader
Answer
As a product used in ordinary households, we put considerable effort into miniaturizing the main unit size. While supporting large screens is advantageous with larger speakers, during development we visited customers' homes to check the actual installation environment, we realized the importance of a size suitable for the customer's environment. By developing newly developed speaker units and optimizing duct layouts, we have miniaturized the size to about half of what was initially considered.
Question
When we talk about movie theatres, there are all kinds of venues, from large cinemas to small theatres in town. What kind of cinema did you aim to recreate with BRAVIA Theatre TRIO?

![]()
Kayashima
Signal Processing Development Leader
Answer
We visited SPE's headquarters sound mix facility in Culver City, California, USA, to conduct a detailed analysis of the acoustic characteristics of studios where filmmakers complete their final sounds. When working in this studio, SPE's film creators make final adjustments with a conscious eye on how the sound they produce will be reproduced in the cinema. In other words, if you can accurately reproduce that sound, it is equivalent to reproducing the sound of a movie theatre. This time, with SPE's cooperation, we were able to see the actual sites where they produce content, which is a unique initiative unique to Sony, which owns a film production company within the group, and it became a major strength in this product development.
Regarding the final sound experience achieved through these signal processings, from the early prototype stage, we brought prototypes to SPE and repeatedly listened to them with SPE's creators. Based on feedback from creators, we have improved and adjusted the signal processing algorithms to achieve results that satisfy creators.

Answer
Including the optional speakers mentioned later, the full system offers a vast and powerful sound experience that faithfully reproduces the creator's vision, reminiscent of a cinema. Of course, the BRAVIA Theatre TRIO alone can also reproduce an immersive soundstage using its essence.
Behind the Development of Sony BRAVIA Theatre TRIO

Sony created the BRAVIA Theatre TRIO to address a growing challenge in home entertainment: as TVs become larger, traditional soundbars struggle to deliver sound that matches the scale of the screen. The result is a new three-speaker wireless home theatre system that combines a dedicated center speaker with separate left and right speakers, creating a wider, more immersive sound experience while maintaining clear dialogue.
The development team worked closely with Sony Pictures Entertainment for more than two years, studying how movie sound is created and mixed in professional cinema environments. Their goal was to bring the emotional impact and spatial realism of a movie theatre into the living room.
A major focus of the project was recreating the sense of space found in cinemas. Sony enhanced its proprietary 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology to generate a richer, more enveloping sound field that extends beyond the physical speaker locations, helping fill the room with immersive audio.

BRAVIA Theatre TRIO is also designed to grow with users' needs. While the three-speaker system delivers a complete experience on its own, it can be expanded with optional rear speakers and subwoofers for an even more powerful surround sound setup. Sony also emphasized easy setup, room optimization, and accessibility features to make the system approachable for a wide range of users.
Overall, the BRAVIA Theatre TRIO represents Sony's vision for the next generation of home cinema audio: a flexible, immersive solution built specifically for today's large-screen TVs and modern living spaces.
Message
If your TV is 65 inches or larger, we highly recommend trying TRIO with it!

BRAVIA Theatre TRIO was developed with special attention to customers using TVs larger than 85 inches, and even TVs in the 65 inch class, traditionally considered large, are now designed to fully enjoy the effects of this effect. Through collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the evolution of 360SSM, the development of dedicated calibration microphones, and considerations for accessibility, the entire design team put their efforts into this product, and we are proud that we were able to produce a good product. One of the appeals of BRAVIA Theatre TRIO is the low barrier to entry, allowing you to enjoy the system on its own and upgrade as needed. We hope you'll check out the actual sound and experience at a nearby store or Sony Store.
