Description
Step into a practical, idea-driven workshop that teaches photographers how to use light as a storytelling tool. Participants learn to combine studio lights, speedlights, and available light with modifiers, gels, and shaping tools to create distinctive moods, textures, and character-driven portraits.
What participants will learn:
Light as narrative: Use direction, contrast, color, and falloff to express mood and character.
Creative modifiers and tools: Use grids, snoots, gobos, gels, scrims, and reflectors to sculpt and colorize light.
Mixed-light control: Balance and combine flash with continuous and ambient light for cinematic effects.
One-light and experimental setups: Build efficient, repeatable setups that produce striking results quickly.
Practical shaping techniques: Create rim light, hair light, butterfly light, split light, clamshell, and dramatic low-key setups with creative twists.
Color and mood: Use gels, white balance, and color grading choices to reinforce emotion.
Lighting for texture and detail: Emphasize skin, fabric, and background texture using contrast and angle.
Directing for light: Pose and communicate with models to enhance light-driven compositions.
On-set problem solving: Adapt setups for small studios, tight spaces, and uncontrolled locations.
Post-shoot workflow: Simple retouching and color grading approaches that preserve the creative intent of the lighting.
